Saudi Arabia has revealed plans for a stadium within the Line, a linear city being developed as part of the Middle Eastern country’s ambitious NEOM project.
The venue is one of 15 structures proposed as part of Saudi Arabia’s bid for the FIFA World Cup 2034.
If constructed, NEOM Stadium will sit at the heart of a new sports-focused neighborhood, adjacent to the Health and Well-Being District and the University, easily accessed from multiple levels in the Line. With a pitch situated more than 1,100 feet above ground, it would have the capacity to accommodate more than 45,000 spectators.
The stadium will be run—like the rest of the city—on renewable energy generated primarily from wind and solar sources. Transportation systems will be entirely electric, with an implemented five-minute walkability model that promotes travel on foot.

Before and after the FIFA World Cup 2034 takes place, the stadium is poised to be a signature landmark on the Line. It will not only be the home for a men’s and women’s professional football club but also provide a base for the club, fans, community programs, and other major events.
Additional stadiums are slated to be built in Riyadh, Jeddah, Abha, and Al Khobar, where global architectural firm Populous is designing a 47,000-seat stadium for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup within a sprawling 8.6 million-square-foot masterplan for the city’s Sports City district, reports Dezeen. The structure, dubbed Aramco Stadium, is also being developed to meet the requirements needed to be a 2034 FIFA World Cup facility.
According to Reuters, Nadhmi al-Nasr, the long-time CEO of NEOM, resigned without reason on November 12th, 2024.
