The 50-key Hotel Anna & Bel will soon debut in Fishtown, Philadelphia, amidst the neighborhood’s arts, music, and culinary scene.
Slated to debut in March 2024, the hotel will breathe new life into several historic buildings, including an 18th-century structure that once served as a women’s asylum and later, the historic Penn Home, one of the city’s earliest retirement homes.
Designed by locally based Foyer Project in collaboration with B-March, the boutique property will seamlessly blend classic and contemporary elements. The team drew inspiration from century-old wallpaper and pastel colors uncovered during renovations, as well as intricate embroidery details. The overall design concept embraces curves and graceful lines to pay homage to the building’s feminine roots.
“Preserving our historical property poses unique challenges, as it is a combination of different structures merged over time,” says Dor Berkovitz, managing partner at Foyer Project. “This diverse history translates into distinct layouts for each room, ensuring a unique experience in every space.”
The guestrooms—ranging from studios to two-bedrooms—are awash in warm colors, curated furniture pieces, and unique accessories that evoke a residential sensibility. Original elements, such a exposed brick walls, aged beams, and brick fireplaces, were preserved in the construction. Some rooms will feature terraces that overlook the interior courtyard, which sits at the heart of the property and includes a heated pool, reminiscent of balconies in New Orleans’ French Quarter.
The hotel will also offer creative spaces, including a coworking area, bar, treatment room, sauna, and a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant.
