Shawmut Design and Construction, BSE Global, and architecture firm Populous have teamed up for the second phase of enhancements at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Elevated hospitality experiences set to debut at the arena ahead of the 2025–26 NBA season.

Key projects include Gallagher Terrace, a new premium club, and the Bridge, an upper-concourse fan zone.

The Gallagher Terrace lounge

barclays center brooklyn new york Gallagher Terrace members lounge bar

Gallagher Terrace will replace the arena’s Loge Boxes and portions of the 40/40 Club with an exclusive 5,300-square-foot lounge channeling the spirit of Brooklyn’s Gilded Age.

Designed for just 110 members, the space will feature plush banquette seating accented by dynamic LED lighting visible from the bowl. It’s the only club in the venue to offer in-seat dining with waiter service, alongside a dedicated VIP entrance and private bar.

The Bridge, a new fan zone

Meanwhile, the west end of the upper concourse will be transformed into the Bridge, a 6,800-square-foot, two-level destination open to all guests.

Drawing inspiration from the iconic bridges that connect Brooklyn to the rest of New York, the Bridge will feature an elevated platform for in-game performances, a 63-foot-long bar—the largest in the arena—and panoramic views of the Downtown Brooklyn skyline through newly installed windows. Two retail concepts will also be added to the space.

Additional updates at Barclays Center

barclays center The Garden Bar

Other updates include upgrades to the Garden Bar, located on the main concourse, and redesigned backstage dressing rooms created in partnership with the Brooklyn Home Company.

Construction will begin at the end of the 2024–25 Brooklyn Nets season and wrap ahead of the 2025–26 season. The work will not impact the New York Liberty’s schedule or the Barclays Center’s summer concert lineup.

The project follows the debut of the Toki Row membership club and JetBlue at the Key, part of phase one of the venue’s long-term enhancement plan.

French luxury retailer Printemps has debuted its New York flagship at One Wall Street, a historic Art Deco landmark, in the Financial District.

Designed by architect Laura Gonzalez, the two-level, 55,000-square-foot store blends the essence of a Parisian apartment with contemporary New York flair.

Salon

Design influences

Drawing from Printemps’ 160-year legacy and the iconic architecture of its Paris flagship, the store’s interiors highlight luxurious materials and intricate craftsmanship such as wood floors with stone inlay, richly patterned textiles, and custom handmade tiles.

Upcycled furniture and works by celebrated artists, including William Coggin and Charles Kaisin, contribute to the layered aesthetic, while bespoke stained-glass panels and large-scale frescoes emphasize the dialogue between American and French design traditions.

“For a project of this magnitude, we were meticulous in choosing the right architect, as working within a landmark building requires navigating a distinct set of complexities,” says Printemps CEO Jean-Marc Bellaiche. “Laura Gonzalez has a unique style that aligns with Printemps’ DNA, blending elements from residential, hospitality, and retail designs. We aimed to create something wholly unique, bringing an immediate ‘wow’ effect to our visitors and clients, and Laura’s design ensures our audience will immediately recognize this new, compelling space.”

Distinctive spaces at Printemps New York

Sneaker Room

The store features 10 uniquely designed areas. An undulating glass entrance on Broadway welcomes visitors into the vibrant Playroom, a multicolored marble space housing casualwear, gifts, and Café Jalu, an all-day café named after Printemps’ founders. The Playroom also includes the immersive Sneaker Room, crowned by a ceiling-spanning LED screen.

Side-by-side escalators lead to the second-floor Salon, where intricate wood flooring and floral-patterned carpets nod to Printemps’ heritage. Salon Vert, a Parisian-inspired raw bar overlooking Broadway, features handpainted tiles that reflect Gonzalez’s signature style.

The menswear section, La Garçonnière, juxtaposes monochromatic patterns with pink moiré wallpaper, soft pink curtains, and pastel frescoes, while the adjacent Beauty Corridor—a minimalist space of light beige concrete and resin—connects the original Art Deco tower with the building’s newer addition.

The corridor opens into the beauty and spa area, the Salle de Bain, which seamlessly transitions to the Boudoir. This elegant space—defined by double-height ceilings, moon gold-colored metal cladding, and cracked lacquer screens—showcases evening wear, vintage clothing, and fine jewelry.

F&B experiences

Red Room Bar

Printemps New York also offers five distinct dining venues. Fine-dining concept Maison Passerelle features handpainted tiles, stained glass, and frescoes, while the Wine Shop’s terracotta floors and green marble accents evoke a blend of old and new.

On the ground level, the cozy Red Room Bar, adorned with rich red jasper marble and stained glass, opens to the landmark Red Room, a red ombré and gold mosaic Art Deco space that houses Printemps’ whimsical shoe forest.

“As the landscape of commerce continues to evolve, the lines between retail and hospitality will increasingly blur,” Bellaiche adds. “The future lies in creating seamless experiences that prioritize connection, emotion, comfort, and community, where these two disciplines converge to redefine client engagement.”

A new façade for the LA store

In Los Angeles, the store’s updated façade boasts olive-hued porcelain tiles and an eyeglass-shaped window display.

Goodrich drew inspiration from the shop’s Art Deco architecture and the geometry of eyewear, incorporating rounded forms, timeless materials, and playful patterns into the space.

The redesign also showcases the complete reimagining of Framed Ewe’s graphic design identity.

The Phoenix flagship underwent a complete transformation with a focus on rich materials and bold accents.

The store is anchored by a 16-foot acidic violet upholstered fitting station, which contrasts the warmth of its cherrywood tones. Concrete terrazzo countertops add a modern touch, while a 25-foot dimensional wooden mural runs along the length of the shop.

Both stores share a unifying feature: black-and-cream checkerboard patterned storefronts, a nod to the zig-zag aesthetic of the Art Deco era.

“My goal was to infuse the space with a sense of history while keeping it slightly unexpected,” says Goodrich. “The interior design honors Framed Ewe’s history of selling quality designer eyewear.”

Muni delivers an indoor golf experience that blends immersive play with an inviting social setting in Pointe Saint-Charles, Québec.

Housed within the Nordelec, an industrial heritage structure from 1913, Muni features a design that respects the iconic building’s storied past.

The brick-clad façade and expansive windows provide a dramatic exterior, while Montreal-based Ivy Studio preserved the industrial character inside via exposed concrete floors, structural steel, and raw brick walls. These robust materials are softened by warmer, more refined design details to create a welcoming yet dynamic environment.

muni indoor immersive golf simulator industrial nordelec building adaptive reuse mint green lobby reception red retailThe spatial flow inside Muni

Spanning 6,943 square feet, Muni occupies a ground-floor corner unit with its own entrance. Guests are greeted by a double-height entry area featuring a retail space and reception counter clad in rich green oak veneer. Original concrete steps, enhanced with custom millwork, guide visitors to the main club area above.

A central corridor anchors the design, dividing the space into two distinct zones.

On one side, seven private golf simulator lounges are arranged to foster privacy and comfort. Each lounge functions like a semi-private living room, furnished with a combination of high-top tables, plush banquette seating, and checkered light features. The final lounge expands to house three simulators for larger groups.

Opposite the lounges is a full-service restaurant and bar. The dining area features a mix of elevated banquette seating in deep green and navy-striped upholstery, complemented by a long communal table.

A secondary entrance at the rear connects the club to the rest of the Nordelec building, while a staircase behind the reception counter leads to a mezzanine space for private events and gatherings.

Introducing warmth in an industrial setting

The material palette is inspired by classic golf club aesthetics, balancing the raw industrial backdrop with a warm and sophisticated aesthetic. Deep forest greens, light putting-green-inspired tones, and burgundy accents create a vibrant atmosphere, while warm red oak veneer, green and red marble, and glossy mint green walls add depth and intimacy.

Lighting at Muni

Lighting sets the ambiance throughout Muni, beginning at the reception, where a monumental lightbox encased in deep green wood creates an eye-catching focal point from both inside and out.

Within the restaurant, soft, fabric cylinder fixtures float from the open ceiling, while custom steel sconces with burgundy panels line the walls. Above the bar, triangular pendant lights, inspired by golf flags, cast an intimate glow. Meanwhile, bespoke chrome sconces lend a residential feel to the simulator lounges.

Along the central corridor, an illuminated gallery of retro golf imagery evokes the timelessness of a country club “hall of fame,” adding a nostalgic yet playful touch.

Spanning under 800 square feet, the POUTx clinic makes an immediate impression with its immersive palette of vibrant pink and lipstick red, accented by surgical stainless-steel finishes.

Microcement floors and walls, paired with a matching pink ceiling, create a seamless material composition, while neon tube lighting and oversized domed mirrors manipulate light and space.

Unconventional transparency

A striking 19-foot-long stainless-steel welcome desk serves as both a social hub and a visual anchor.

From this central point, guests are offered an unconventional view into two open treatment pods, which were created to challenge traditional privacy norms in the cosmetic industry and reject the stigma around aesthetic procedures. Floating transparent red acrylic walls further reinforce this ethos.

Form meets function

Each treatment pod features custom operatory-style stainless-steel nurse’s stations, large circular mirrors for consultation, and adjustable overhead surgical lighting for precision.

A concealed workstation discreetly houses a freezer for injectables, medical sharps disposal, and storage for ancillary items, ensuring that function is integrated into the design.

This spring, the Brooklyn Mirage is set to unveil a dramatic reinvention that fuses live music, art, and immersive nightlife experiences in the heart of the Avant Gardner complex.

After a decade as an iconic institution in New York’s nightlife scene, the reimagined open-air venue draws inspiration from operatic grandeur to mark a new era when it reopens this May.

The Brooklyn Mirage is also launching a New Media Art Program that will invite renowned and emerging multidisciplinary artists—including members of the local creative community—to showcase their work.

Brooklyn Mirage’s new chapter

The redesign—envisioned by Avant Gardner’s in-house team in collaboration with Hard Feelings Studio and Studio Greenbank—will feature a monumental heavy timber structure measuring 197 feet by 164 feet and rising 65 feet high.

Unlike conventional large-scale event structures, which rely on steel or aluminum, this design is fully pre-manufactured and CNC-cut.

An expansive LED video wall

The Brooklyn Mirage’s signature LED video wall has evolved into its most ambitious iteration yet—Mirage 4.0—featuring a fully kinetic shutter system.

When closed, the façade pays homage to the venue’s early days before LED screens were introduced; however, when open, it will unveil a hyper-realistic 270-degree virtual environment comprising more than 3,000 LED tiles with a 30K resolution and 100 million pixels.

The Brooklyn Mirage Rendering 270 degree led wraparound screen

Upgraded sound design

Sound design will also be elevated with a custom-built L-Acoustics system, complete with more than 100 precision-calibrated speakers and subwoofers placed throughout the venue.

Paired with a dynamic production setup—including a 90-foot-wide performance area and an industry-leading 400,000-pound roof rigging capacity—the new Mirage will offer arena-level production where every guest feels immersed in the experience.

“The Brooklyn Mirage has always been a place to dance, to lose oneself in moments of pure, electrifying energy. It’s a space where people, community, and culture converge to create unforgettable memories,” says Avant Gardner CEO Josh Wyatt. “When we decided to rebuild the venue from the ground up, we aimed to honor its legacy while expanding the dance floor, creating immersive side-quest spaces, and pushing the boundaries of music, art, and technology.”

“This is not just an upgrade—it’s a rebirth,” Wyatt continues. “The new Mirage will be everything fans worldwide love about this space—while delivering a completely new, mind-blowing sensory experience. New York City deserves a venue that evolves with the culture, and that’s exactly what we’re creating.”

Los Angeles-based AAHA Studio has unveiled its design for Wedgewood Weddings at Danza del Sol Winery in Temecula, California.

The event venue, named the Barrel Room, features expansive glass doors that blur the boundary between indoors and out, and open onto a picturesque ceremony space and outdoor entertainment areas. A stucco-painted exterior, inspired by Tuscan tradition, grounds the winery in classic charm.

Inside, walls lined with halved wine barrels pay homage to the craft of winemaking, while a custom rope chandelier serves as a striking contemporary focal point.

Moody chiaroscuro lighting creates a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, enhancing the interior ambiance. Polished cement floors reflect the towering wine barrels, further emphasizing the artistry of the winemaking process.

Sustainability and craftsmanship are woven into the design through reconstituted wine barrels repurposed as tables and umbrella stands, as well as structural faux beams crafted from lightweight, pre-finished polyurethane.

New York’s New Museum is set to unveil a 60,000-square-foot expansion, spearheaded by OMA in collaboration with Cooper Robertson, this fall.

The addition will complement the institution’s existing SANAA-designed flagship on the Bowery at Prince Street, doubling gallery space and enhancing visitor flow with new elevators, an atrium stairway, and expanded public areas.

Named in honor of the late philanthropist Toby Devan Lewis—whose $30 million donation marks the largest gift in the museum’s history—the new seven-story building will integrate with the original structure while maintaining a distinct exterior.

New Museum new york city manhattan expanded building galleries atrium workshops Toby Devan Lewis staircase installationNew Museum’s expansion

The building’s façade, clad in laminated glass with metal mesh, will echo the original SANAA structure while enhancing transparency.

Inside, aligned ceiling heights across the second, third, and fourth floors will create uninterrupted galleries.

An atrium stairway will provide views of the surrounding neighborhood and space for site-specific art, while three new elevators—two dedicated to gallery access—will improve circulation. The ground level will feature an expanded bookstore, a full-service restaurant, and a new entrance plaza designed as an open-air venue for public art.

The upper floors

The upper floors will introduce a dedicated studio for artists-in-residence, a 74-seat forum, and a permanent home for NEW INC, the museum’s cultural incubator that supports more than 120 creative entrepreneurs annually.

The seventh-floor Sky Room will double in size while maintaining panoramic views of downtown Manhattan, and three additional terraces will overlook the Bowery.

“The New Museum is an incubator for new cultural perspectives and production, and the expansion aims to embody that attitude of openness,” says OMA partner Shohei Shigematsu. “Imagined as a highly connected yet distinct counterpart to the existing museum’s verticality and solidity, the new building will offer horizontally expansive galleries for curatorial variety, open vertical circulation, and a diversity of spaces for gathering, exchange, and creation.”

“The building is further shaped to create an active public face—including an outdoor plaza at the ground, moments of transparency throughout the central atrium, and terraced openings at the top—that will openly engage the surrounding community and beyond,” he adds.

Designed by Sansa Interiors, the Local by Masrawy Kitchen in Mississauga, Canada opens as a multifunctional space that reinterprets the essence of a traditional Egyptian marketplace.

The café, market, and butcher shop concept draws inspiration from markets like Khan Al-Khalili and Souk Al Fustat.

Layered textures, materials, and handcrafted elements create a rich, immersive environment at the Local.

Handmade zellige tiles in deep green, walnut wood accents, and terracotta Silestone countertops establish an earthy palette, while intricate fabrics and custom millwork add depth and authenticity. A large communal table anchors the café, reinforcing the concept’s core value of togetherness.

Materiality plays a central role in storytelling. Earthy terracotta finishes, for instance, evoke the warmth of desert landscapes. Banquette seating is upholstered in richly textured fabrics, while sheer drapery and suspended textiles introduce a sense of softness.

Meanwhile, the layered space is brought together through lighting—globe fixtures suspended from wooden hangers above individual tables, and bespoke macramé lighting and hanging textiles are featured in the communal dining area.

An intuitive layout

Despite its multipurpose nature, the Local’s layout ensures seamless transitions between each section. Wooden archways serve as transitional elements, and a woven screen partition subtly delineates spaces while preserving an open, communal feel.
