Blue Nomad, a skin health studio near New York’s Madison Square Park, redefines wellness through a blend of artistry, science, and globally inspired design.
Founded by Onyedikachi Achilike—an entrepreneur with a background spanning biology, venture capital, and skincare—the intimate space is the first step in her broader mission to create a global wellness community. “Wellness is multifaceted, encompassing everything from beauty to mental clarity, physical vitality, and beyond,” says Achilike.
The 175-square-foot studio, designed by Brooklyn-based architect Silvana Vergara Tobin of Studio Tove, embodies a balance of function and soul inside the historic Townsend Building.
A palette of muted blue-greens, warm neutrals, and volcanic Cantera stone in a pink-purple hue creates a calming yet modern aesthetic. Reflective glass bricks and chrome accents echo water’s fluidity, inspired by the intricate natural materials seen in Moroccan architecture, as well as Peter Zumthor’s Therme Vals spa.
“By forgoing wood in favor of chrome and vibrant tiles, the space achieves a balance of modernity and soulfulness—serene yet dynamic,” Achilike points out.
Despite its compact size, Blue Nomad offers distinct zones for treatments and relaxation, marked by a custom partition with flexible elements. “While we envisioned a water source from the start, the lack of plumbing forced us to get creative,” Achilike adds. “We ultimately integrated a portable sink system, preserving the design intent and ensuring functionality.”
Blue Nomad’s first location reflects its ethos of wellness as an interconnected experience. Future plans include expanding Blue Nomad’s footprint to urban hubs, like London and Paris, and serene destinations such as Botswana’s Okavango Delta.
